So you don’t particularly like going to the gym. You cannot afford the membership fee. You hate having to deal with traffic going to and from it. Mingling with other sweaty gym goers is not your cup of tea. You feel self-conscious when you’re working out. More often than not, you end up talking yourself out of going because all these factors kill your motivation.
There’s one solution. Bring the gym to your home. However, not everyone has the luxury of space to create a home gym nor the budget to allocate for expensive gym machines. True, there are a lot of body workout exercises that do not require any equipment. But, if you want to take your workout to the next level, there are quite a few helpful tools you can use.
We compiled a list of budget-friendly fitness equipment for those interested to get started on building their home gym for less than 1,800 pesos. These won’t require too much space and will be easy to store when not in use.
1. Jump rope
Jumping rope is a very effective way to exercise. Do you know that you can burn 1,400 calories in a week if you do two 10-minute sessions everyday? Not only that, it builds cardio fitness, balance and agility.
2. Yoga mat
A yoga mat is not just for, well, yoga. It’s also great for doing body weight exercises such as push ups, sit ups, Pilates and stretching. The mat provides you sufficient cushion from the floor and a non-slip surface when doing different workouts.
3. Ab roller
I swear by this equipment. It’s great at strengthening your core and sculpting those abs you’ve been dying to have. Some core exercises such as crunches only target a minimal number of muscles. With variations of ab roller exercises, you can target not only your abs and obliques but also your shoulder, arms and back muscles.
4. Exercise ball
There’s a multitude of workouts you can do with an exercise ball that will help you improve balance, posture, core strength and stability. You can also use it to make regular body weight workouts more challenging such as balance push up, knee tucks, overhead ball squats, glute bridge to name a few.
5. Resistance bands
Resistance bands are great alternatives for weights when it comes to strength training. It’s great for toning your muscles and improving your balance with lesser risk for injury. They come in a variety of sizes and tension levels allowing you to do much challenging workouts as you progress.
